so lately i have been struggling with bryopsis and grateloupia covering my live rock and parts of my coral. my reef tank is aroung 1 year old, and i have been struggling to get rid of these invincible algaes for about a few months. i use T-5s that are only on for 10 hours, i also use a 20 gallon sump/ refugium. i was thinking on either scrubing or replacing the live rock? which one would be the most efficient. i would have to scrub around 60 pounds of live rock.

    my levels are:
    phosphates - 0
    nitrate - 0
    nitrites- 0
    ammonia - 0

what test kits are you using?

what type of live rock is it?

what are your tank habits as far as water changes feedings?

and what does your clean CUC composed of?

You can try to scrub the rock, but I would try cutting down on your light time. go to 8 hours then 6. And you can always leave the lights out completely for 2-3 days. Get more CUC as well.

i use API and Salfriet test kits for the standard levels and trace elements.
    i have fiji live rock.
i do a 10% water change with R/O every week, and i feed with 1/4 of a cube of mysis, i dont put the cube directly into the tank, i melt it first.
my CUC composes of around 25 nerites, 25 nassarius snails, 50 ceriths, 25 electric blue hermits and 15 assorted hermits.
i have no other algae except for the byropsis and Grateloupia

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
To treat the bryopsis you are either going to need to get the nudibranch/sea slug that eats it or treat with magnesium, otherwise you are just wasting your time. And the magnesium needs to be kent marine tech, other brands do not work as well or not at all.

This is a great thread by a member here.
