I purchased 150lbs of LR from some dude taking down his tank, and he lived 1 hour from me. I hauled my 2 garbage can (33gal) that I use for w/c. I kept about8 inches of water from a water change in them. Any more water would be too heavy i figured, but the more the better.
I put the rock in them with the lids, (avoid stuff getting inside and water splashing in my Jeep), and traveled home. I filled the cans the rest of the way with salt water with a pump and heater and kept an eye on it. Testing the water for any spikes before I introduced them into my DT. I kept them in there for almost 2 week and never had a spike. Reading were perfect the whole time, so it proved that my method work for the least amount of die-off.
Although I did it in the summer when it was warm. I would think using that method or a heavily soaked towl with w/c water would be ok. But I would "quarratine" it for a bit as so not to cause a mini spike.
Hope this helps and good luck! And remember, we expect pics when your done! ;)

Damp towel, newspaper anything to keep the rock moist will be good.

OK....I will go with as much water as I can and keep it soaked as best I can without soaking my car.

Can I use fresh RO water that I make for my water changes....with salt of course instead of the tank water?

Do you put a light on it when you kept it out of your tank for a couple of weeks? or just heater with powerhead and cover!?!

Update....I spoke with the guy who has the rock....its actually in 5 gallon buckets with wet paper towels on it. Its been like that for 5 days now.

    What do I do here?

Should I still get the rock and then re-cure it here in my rubbermaid tubs then put it in my tank?

Or should I just ditch it and keep looking?

He also has a bunch of dead rock in his garage he would throw in the deal....should i take it if i get the other rock? What do i do with that? How do i clean it and then trust its ok to put in my tank?

I really need some more live rock in my tank asap!!!!
