I started my first reef tank in 1997. Just got a 180g and a 350g. Saw some beautiful live rock at www.liverockranch.com out of Miami, Florida. So I purchased 225lbs of live sand, 225lbs of their premium live rock, and 225lbs of premium dry rock. Just got it in on 8/26. Very dissapointed in the base rock I received. Very heavy, with very little porosity, and growth was almost non existant. The rock stunk from dieoff. I was told by the diver that the rock would have extensive coraline growth along with multiple critters living in the rock and sand. I saw a total of one dead scallop. The pictures I have posted are of his "Premium Live Rock". It was all like this, a whole lot of fill rock. If you are in the market for live rock, beware of The Live Rock Ranch. A TOTAL Bate and Switch. No response from my many emails to the seller:furious2: Tried loading pics but they are too large and I do not know how to shrink them.

They don't seem to know what the word "aquaculture" means.

    -From their site

In all fairness though, any time you buy rock that must be shipped, you should expect it to come smelling and looking a little dead. They can't ship them fully submerged, and a lot of stuff on the rock is going to die due to contact with the air.

How long have you had the rock?

Aquaculture in the case of live rock from the Keys means that they take dead rock and place it in the ocean, then harvest it later so that they're not taking it from existing reefs.

I would like to see them also. Depending on how long they've had the rock, it seems like the word "scam" may have been premature. It drives me nuts when people jump online seconds after discovering what they think is a problem, sign up on every forum around, blast a company and then after finding that it wasn't a problem, never go back to update the thread.

I have a feeling reefadict will not be back...

I too find it strange that this would be the users first post.
