hi, I am almost at the point where I can add live rock to my tank. I going pick up 150 lbs of live rock tommorow. My tank still empty and I still need to do some more plumbing/pipe. I wont have water in my tank in a week or 2, but I dont want to pass on this deal on the live rock. It's ok to let the rock dry out? What should I do?

If you let it dry you will have pretty much wasted your money. If you get it, make sure to keep it wet. You can get a big rubbermaid bin and just keep it submerged. Put a small PH in there and it should be good for a good bit. No need for light.

Unless the deal is really stellar, you can get base rock for 2 bucks a pound shipped. Couple months and it will look just like any other live rock.

I second keeping it wet if you do get it.

I got this guy selling me 2/lbs. He say it a mix if figi, and other live rock. So, live rock is just have bacteria on it that why it live, and if I have base rock, in couple month my rock will be live too. $2/lbs for live rock seem to be a stealer, dont you guy think???

it would take a year or so for base rock to turn live. IF you can keep it wet get it.

Here are the 150 lbs of live rock I got yesterday. Can I clean it up? Will the live rock go dead? I have the live rock in the saltwater I mix yesterday, the water is about 12 hr old. Hope it OK and not damaging my live rock.

    Should be fine...
I have had rock that has set out of water for weeks, and when used, it still had little surprises growing out of it...you would be surprised.

It doesn't have to be submerjed, take some cheap towels, soak them in salt water, (reg water if you have nothing else) and lay them over the rocks. What ever you can do to keep them damp, wet newspaper works too, but is a pain to get off the rock.

You do want to keep it wet, will shorten your cycle pretty dramatically over base rock.
