Either of those would be sweet if you stay away from SPS. :thumbsup2:

 

So I've been cycling for about 1 week. I checked my water yesterday and these were the results:
· PH = 8.4
· Ammonia = 0.25
· Nitrite = 0
· Nitrate = 20
· SG = 1.025 (All this at 85.5F and with a little evaporation, about 1" from top), added RO water to top-off

My question is, does it matter that my tank has been running kind of hot (84 - 85.5F) during cycling? I know that I'll need to add a fan or use other measures to cool the tank when I'm ready to add fish.

PLEASE ADVISE!!

 

I say that's fine.
But it wouldn't hurt to figure out how to bring the temp down now before you start thinking about fish.

I would suggest you strongly look and research into metal halides, probably 2x250W on your tank. I don't want to push anything on you since I'm not sure what you are planning to keep in your tanks. I can almost be sure that in the future, you will catch the SPS bug...and you will wish you had gotten at least 2x250w halides. I didn't think much about SPS until I saw them in person, and now, I have 4 frags in my tank. Anyways, just a reminder, if you are even thinking about SPS in the future...go with the halides now...and save yourself the trouble of spending more $$$ to upgrade in the future.

Oh, one more thing JP, that hood in the picture has to go if you wish to keep the tank temp. down. Get yourself a hood canopy with about 10-12" (above the water) if you are going for halides. Make sure you do the research and look for PAR (light usable for the corals) ratings on different setups.

Anyways, it's either you get a new hood or purchase a new chiller (Chillers are very expensive to run and purchase). I don't see a way to run a fan with your setup unless you plumb your tank to a sump.
