    I am buying a used 180 gal. how much live rock do I need? also what is the best web site to order it? maybe one of the sponsers?

    Save yourself some money and buy the majority base rock, such as 90% and then just get the rest live rock to seed the base rock with benefitial bacteria and growth, such a coraline.. thats my opinion.. good base rock is from www.reefcleaners.org
    as for the amount you should get, I would go with 1.5-2 lbs per gallon.. so 270lbs to 360lbs.. good luck..

    Love to save money, but what do u mean by base rock?

    Base rock is the same porous, calcium carbonate coral skeleton-based rock; but unlike LR, it's purchased dry.

    It becomes live in your tank over time. It's a cheaper, safer alternative because there's no die off, no cycle induced by its addition, and no surprise life forms that could eat coral, or be parasitic to fish.

    i just got some of this stuff ordered its alot cheaper than ur live rock but within time it will also become live with bacteria as bama said u will only need a few pieces of live rock to seed
