youll be safe with 25 to 30.. Live rock is very dense, so dont let the amount fool you.. If you want to save some money from the get go, get half live and half dry.. It will take longer to make the dead rock live(2+ months) but you will easily save $100+.. also if you go this route, know that your cycle will be longer and it will take longer time before you can successfully keep more fish without them dying from ammonia poisoning..

honestly with a tank that small id say closer to 15 that should be more then enough to filter your water and give your critters places to hide i have about 24lbs in my 26 bowfront and honestly it looks full

If you have 6 lbs of live rock then you dont need any more live rock.

Buy some dry rock and save money. Buy 20 lbs of dry rock, it will eventually turn into live rock.

If your starting fresh, I would go with all base rock (it's live rock that not live). Cycle your tank and you'll be good to go. It's cheaper, you will know exactly what's going into your tank, no nuisance algae, nudibranches, mantis shrimp etc. It will become "live rock" as soon as you cycle is over. I have accomplished this with base rock in two weeks, so I disagree that it will take 2 months. You don't need to add anything else to the tank to cycle, just toss the base rock in there, do some tests after a few weeks, then when you parameters are reading 0, your good to start adding live stock. As for amount, I would fill the tank to about 1/3 of the volume, this is enough to make it look nice, but also allows room to swim and such.
