I have a 30 gal aquarium with about 25 pounds of live rock in it. I want to get about 40 pounds of rock, but I hate getting new live rock because everytime I add the smallest amount of rubble I become paranoid and end up staying awake all night looking for bad hitchhikers with a flash light. I heard that if you already have some live rock in the tank you can make dry rock live. If I add dry rock how long until it becomes live?

    Thank You!!!

Well it will take a few months, but that is how most do it(using dry rock) & it is much less expensive.

Yes your live rock will seed any base (dry) rock you put in the tank. Time will vary from tank to tank but IME it took about 5 months for 33#'s of LR to seed and mature 55#'s of base.
