live rocks?

    ok so i have a 10 gallon thats about to turn 2 months i have no live rocks and the tank is still at 2.5 amomia 5 natrite and 5 natrite (tested by my lfs) so should i add live rock it's like 6.99 here in fl or could i just go to the beach and get some? also at my lfs there LR are in a takn of water with a coupple of powerheads would i need to do anything with it o could it be placed into my tank just like that

    It is illegal here to take LR from the waters. My area is usually like $8.99 a pound so what I did is I looked on Craigslist for someone tearing down their tank and bought their LR. I got like 65lbs for $1.50 a pound and they are about five to six years old.

    I think you should of already had LR in your system, but I would add it now because it might start another cycle. LR is one of the natural filter systems in your tank along with live sand, algae, and other microorganisms. That is probably why you have such high parameters.

    Have to be careful where at the beach you're planning to collect because most are off limits to collectors without special permits. Florida rocks are not porous enough for my taste. IMO, I'd recommend Figi instead. Try googling "Marco Rocks" for more information and prices.

    I would order base rock. You'll experience much less die-off, it's cheaper, and you have no risk of bringing in anything unwanted. 80% of my rock is base rock, and looking back at it, I was all of it was.
