live sand?

    would live sand be okay in distillled water for a day or two? (without any salt)

    It will be fine. By live it is referring to some bacteria which can survive in almost any condition.

    live sand, from what i have read, is actually nothing but a reason to jack the price of the same sand you could buy dead, or not live if you will. The bacteria sits in a bag after being packaged for who knows how long and it pretty much sure to die off, unless you were to maybe get it right off the packaging line. Not at all worth the price, but seeing as you are asking questions about it I'm guessing you already have it... lol but yes, the sand sitting in distilled water should be fine. No bacteria due to lack of salt and the packaging/rip off process but usable.
