yes hawkfish are very suitable for rees. you could argue that all fish should be left in the ocean yet we still keep them. they dont have a swim bladder for a reason, they are accustomed to being a bottom dweller.

Well I disagree- if you have any coral at all you will learn to hate these fish, esp. with LPS and softies.
not true- they ARE reef dwellers and reef feeders- primarily. They prey on coral and shimp and many other critters. see here- Hawkfish - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To some degree this is true- depending upon the reasoning and critters kept, but very often not true, check out the above link at wickopedia and type "afician chiclid" - you might be suprized how well they live- it depends upon species- mostly- which is what we are talking about here, types of fishes, examples of such and what they do and do not do- and what good they are in/for home aquaria. Would you say the same of a school of mackerl, or some other schooling fish? Obviously you wouldnt, and I realize we are speaking of home aquaria, but you would be very supprized how we schooling fish do in numbers.

Hawkfish live up to there name they perch on a coral or rock and when prey comes by they "swoop" down and catch and eat it!they won't hurt coral to and small hawk fish only eat VERY small shrimp and sometimes snails!

Yep, now imagine them doing that in your tank to your hi dollar coral- trust me been there done that- never again. And yes they will eat your shrimp and stars- it's what they do- you call this reef safe? I don't.

We are clearly talking about two diffrent things. your talking about how comfortable x amount of fish will be in x amount of gallons. Thats true.
but im speaking on knowing when your bioload overpasses your nitrogen cycle. In that sense filtration does matter tremendously to take strain of the cycle. theoritically, i could have one fish in my tank, and if he happened to crab human size terds he would crash my tank purdy darn fast. lol.

Thats part of the decision the other part is indeed bioload=fitration cpacity (biological or mechanical.

Seems like you have your biolaod in check either way.

Lol sorry guys I'm here! Work and school is kickin my you know what at the moment.

Alpha- Your longnose was eating your coral? Your the first I've heard thats had one do that! Any pics of the little guy?

So I been thinking about my wish list still.. I love coral beauties, but I known there's a possibility of it being a nipper. This has me thinking.. What would be some other possibilities other than the Coral Beauty? Obviously one that can coexist with the other fish on my list.. (if your just jumping in, look on a previous page.. I have a few diff ones lol) Any suggestions are welcome!

Did u get a chance to check out my article on coral beautys I wrote you? lmao.

I can give you a list of several dish and almost everyone there is going to be some type of risk.
Trust me I been here done this. my tank stayed empty for 6 months trying to figure out what to add. (with the exception of Clowns. The easiest pick for almost everybody lol)

Instead of longnose hawk check out the flamehawk

As stated before check out wrasse. six line, radiant, flasher, fairy, coris.

    Neon Dottyback

    Orchid Dottyback

A pair of (Tank Bred) Bangai Cardinal

all I can really think of..other than these 3 cats, DwarfAngel, Blennies, Gobies.

Almost all of these is some small risk, so u will probably have to take a few. I say with the CB

with angels like i always say its a crap shoot if it will eat coral or not, your chances with a ahawk i think will be better they dont damage near the coral because they will pick a spot to perch on and you can just hope there arent any coral there. and usually they just go back to the same spot.
