    I am going to the R.I. coast this weekend and was going to collect some live sand, critters seaweed and add it to my tank and sump any problems or ideas?

    i wouldn't take sand from the beach its probably got a lot of pollution in it and since waves are the skimmer of the ocean it probably has a lot of organics also.

    if you have a reef tank you will be puting temprate species into a tropical enviroment i forsee doom lol .seriously it stands verry little chance of working .

    i guess you could collect some sand shifting crabs, saltwaterfish sells them for tropical tanks and i see them at VA beach so i guess they can survive a wide variety of temperatures

    +1 on all points. The beach is natures skimmer, it would be just as bad as adding skim-mate to your tank. And also, your talking about a northern atlantic enviroment. Everything would die, including any benificial bacteria. Way to big of a temp swing
