hey all, I recently picked up a tube of this loctite stik-n-seal to glue my optics on my diy led project, which worked great, and I also bought a big sheet of acrylic from home depot to build a splash guard for my light fixture as well. so since I had extra of both leftover I dicided to make a frag rack that I can suction to the back wall of my tank. I just made an L shape out of the 2 long pieces of acrylic and plan on siliconing the seam, like aquariums are sealed. my question is can I use the loctite stik-n-seal to glue the 2 pieces together first and to glue the suction cups on. it dryes to a some what soft, clear acrylic so it would be perfect to use, if theres no negative effects on my tank, its non toxic, no odor, and solvent free, if it makes a difference. Thanks in advance

Check the label, is it silicon based? If Cyanoacrylate is the active ingredient you should be good to go, or at least that is the major ingredient I know to look for in super glue.

this isnt really a super glue so it doesnt contain Cyanoacrylate. its an acrylic polymer base with a water solvent, thats pretty much all I could find.

Contact Adhesives from Loctite Products | Loctite Adhesives

They have 3 stik-n-seal products listed & 2 of them specifically say NOT for aquariums and/or potable water systems. I would check and see which you got, even then I would be deeply concerned about using the 3rd since isnt doesnt specifically say its ok.

thanks for the link, the one I got is the indoor adhesive so its the one that doesnt say anything about aquariums. I know its not safe to use as a sealent for the aquarium seams but I just need it to be safe to put something in the tank that has some on it. what do you think can happen if its dry and then placed in the water, even though its non toxic can something bad still leach into the water? thanks

Just posting it so anyone else that comes along can chime in:

    Recommended For

Fixing glassware, ceramic mugs and sealing garden hoses
Bonding brick, cement, ceramic, glass, leather, rubber, wood, tile, fabric and most plastics
Mending picture frames, securing loose tiles and fixing boot soles

    Not Recommended For

    Polyethylene, polypropylene, Nylon™ or Teflon™
    Metals that will corrode
    Natural marble (causes staining)
    Mirrors

I did find this: Loctite Stik N Seal Indoor Adhesive

    From MSDS:
    Hazards Identification
Emergency Overview: Keep out of the reach of children.
Relevant routes of exposure: Skin contact, Eye contact.
    Potential Health Effects
    Inhalation: None expected.
Skin contact: Not a hazard under normal conditions of use.
    Eye contact: None expected.
Ingestion: Not a relevant route of exposure.
Existing conditions aggravated by exposure: None expected.

Now with all that said it does say OK for ceramic mugs (coffe mugs?), garden hoses, and the second link says no expected exposure effects. I would guess its ok, but I would go with minimum amounts necessary just to be on the safe side.

thanks for all the research you did to find that. I couldnt find anything on this stuff. I didnt use a lot of it at all so maybe Ill put a thin layer of aquarium silicon over the adhesive just to keep it from coming into contact with the water. just to be on the safe side.
