The diatoms are annnnnnoying, really. As long as there is food source of diatoms (like silicate on a brand new skimmer and whatnot) present, you will see them. Good news is, they WILL go away eventually. Hang on tight :)

Id get light first, only because it's something you see without opening the cabinet door.. :)

Thats good I can wait them out. Just making sure it wasn't something I needed to fight before it took over my tank lol. Ordered some chaeto from reefcleaners too - but I got an e-mail saying they're sold out. Bummer

I'll order some bulbs from marinedepot tomorrow. If anyone has any advice let me know, but I'm probably going with the Phoenix 14k, I read they are white with a touch of blue, so I'm thinking I can cut down on heat by not running the t12s when the halides are on. For those I'll just get UVL VHO super actinics same that are in there now. They're pretty purple but I don't mind them

the zoas and mushroom my buddy gave me have been in almost a week and seem to be pretty happy so far. I got the pipe organ and green zoas yesterday for a good deal I think. The clowns were being camera shy in all of these lol

i was afraid you might say that :p thanks for the heads up

skimmers doing good - it had a lot of brown foam overflowing from the neck. Water was on the yellow/greenish side instead of brown but its breaking in still? I emptied about 3/4" from the cup today

Sounds like its on a bit wet side. Try to close the opening so the bubbles barely reach the collection lid.

Take a look at where the bubbles are breaking, right before the collection cup, look about right? it sure does smell like its doing its job :p

also maybe i need more than one of these big snails, he seems to be working hard! I've only got that one and about 5 smaller ones in there.
