    Now running GFO and Carbon!

I didn't want another pump in my sump, so I ran it off my return.

(I need to get two hose clamps tomorrow, I didn't think of it until after)

You are gonna see the difference soon. I can tell when the GAC is getting exhausted in my tank (the water gets cloudy or not as clear). But it clears up within 24 hours after refill. I dont have any experience with GFO, but its pretty much a must have equipment when you wanna lower PO4, you know... Good choice, Id say 8)

Be careful with the metal clamps tho. It could be PITA when they rust all the way, you cant take it off without making a mess. If you HAVE to use it, Id rap it around tight with electric vinyl tape.

thanks for the heads up, do they make plastic ones that will hold it?

the fish store is getting in a new shipment tomorrow, I'll probably go take a look. Haven't added a fish in well over a month. I think it might be time :p my friend said they have a diamond watchman goby. I'd kinda like to get something else that swims around the upper half of the tank (flame angel, wrasse, foxface?) but I really like those guys

Yeah, I know there are plastic kinds but they dont seem to work quite well. I use only one metal clamp and it's covered heavily with electrical tape.

It's so fun to see the new shipment at LFS. We try not to go because we never come home empty handed. Make sure they are healthy before you buy, if possible, ask them if they can keep the fish for you for a couple of weeks, just to be sure.

good advice! I'm one of the lucky ones a friend works there and he knows his stuff, he'll let me know if something hasn't been looking good.

I've also been working on another "list of fish to eventually keep" spreadsheet. This is too much fun lol

The lady picked out some fish today. We went with 3 spotted cardinals. They're pretty cool little dudes. Also got a sand sifting sea star. Will try to get a picture up tomorrow.

Congrats on the new adds. They are cool fish!
How often do you have to clean the glass? You will start seeing the difference since you are running GFO now. I clean every 3~4 days or so now thanks to the BioPellets (used to be every single day! I appreciate really clean glass.)

Probably every other day, I spend a fair amount of time looking at the tank so I usually just grab the mag float and clean it without thinking :p

I can already see the carbon is making the water clearer! And I think I figured out my cyano in the sand problem. My flow is a little over 3000gph and lights are new, so I think I'm over feeding. I read overfeeding frozen and meaty stuff can cause red slime if it settles on the sand bed. I've been giving almost half a cube of frozen brine or emerald entree almost every day. Oops? lol

Cyano? I thought you had diatoms? Either way, overfeeding is not good. How long does it take the critters to finish all the food that you are feeding? 2~3 min? Is there always leftover?

Yup if you see the tank from the side, the clear and clearer is obvious :)

I think it was diatoms at first, then cyano followed. Theres some good pics of whats going on here

I wanted to make sure enough food got to the bottom because my electric blue hermit always looked so hungry! lol rookie mistake I guess
