Yes. Alk is used by LPS, SPS, and Coralline to build the calcium carbonate skeletons. Most additives are what's called balanced, in that they provide Alk and Calc in the same ratio as it's used in the process of becoming calcium carbonate (coral skeleton)

Tanks is looking great! Your patience is commendable.

Ive heard/read somewhere that Alk gets used up by coralline, so if you see some coralline growth in your tank, keep an eye on Alk as well as calcium.

the CB angel has an eye infection. We tired to get him out, even had to move around all the rocks, but he wasn't being caught.

It may be stress, my bigger clown can be mean. She will make the smaller clown hide in rocks and won't let him out sometimes. I haven't seen her pick on the angel, but it just hides in the back & through holes most of the time. I'll get a chance to watch them for awhile with the lights on tomorrow so I'll wait and see.

Okay maybe more like 6"x6", I got a little excited too

I figured out the best time to go to the store isn't right after they get new stuff, but right before! They wanted to make more room so I got it for 30 bucks.. They fragged the heck out of it and made their money back pretty quickly on it. So I figured why not :p

I'd get a pic but I turned my lights off when I added them, would it have been okay to leave them on? I didn't want to blast new stuff with halides but maybe the actinics would be fine?

It depends on what light the birdsnest was under at the LFS.
