I haven't noticed any color change yet - is it supposed to? Today I moved it up about 2-3 inches from the sand.

My light schedule is still pretty low I think, the t12's come on from 1-3, the halides from 3-8, and then the actinics again from 8-9.

My sandbed is looking pretty horrible again too - idk if it's cyano back or if its just waste settling down there.. I can't get my skimmer to produce a foam head and it doesn't seem like it's pulling much out. The neck of it gets browned up with gunk but it doesn't make it to the collection cup unless I run it very wet. I think I'm going to try to turn it 180 degrees so the pump intake is right beside the overflow drain and see if that helps

Thats the reason why im going to be running my tank bare bottom. I love sand in tanks but i love them only when theyre clean and white. Ill have some in the fuge, but im very skeptical about adding a sand bed to the dt

Thanks for the pic! No the birdsnest is looking good! I asked because SPSs dont like the change and they get mad (and brown or bleach..) But yours looking awesome. I wish I had something big like that.. :)
On the other hand, the sand is a different story... Sorry you're going through this nastiness. GFO isnt cutting, seems like? I know you're doing everything you can by the book, still something is feeding the cyano (yea, I think its cyano...) big time. Are they only on the sand bed, or over the rocks too? How is the chaeto in the sump? Are you doing reverse light schedule with display and sump? I left the sump light on 24/7 when I had chaeto. You might wanna try that, if you arent.

Im having completely opposite issue with my 160. The water outlet is WIDE open all the way, but its bubbling like CRAZY! The lid gets lift up by the bubbles. Im gonna try raise the height today. So, you might wanna try placing the skimmer a bit lower (deeper)?

Thanks it's good to hear at least the corals are doing well lol! My zoas are opening nice and I'm noticing new heads growing on them too.

Its only on the sand, not the rocks..

I've got it at 6 1/2" and it's recommend 5-8. I'll move it down an inch when I turn it around today and give it a few days. Eventually I've gotta find out where it wants to be lol

Heres some pics of the sump, I'm running the lights reverse at night and turning them off before I go to work in the morning. For lighting I'm using 18w compact fluorescent it's a little light my friend had extra. Do you think the type of lighting is okay or should I get something else down there

edit: i see most people just use clip on lights from lowes or wherever, around the 6500k range. maybe I need to switch
