Figured out what could have been depleting my one zoa colony. I was doing some investigating with a flashlight after lights went out and saw what looked like a bristle worm coming out of the branchy rock the zoas came on and once covered. Did another freshwater dip and got him outta there. I did this awhile ago too, but didn't know to follow up with another dip after a few days because it doesn't kill the eggs.

Thats quite the project you have been through. Trial and error seems to be the standard but unfortunately we all find that no two tanks are the same. Good luck

Nice detective work! Hope the colony comes back soon.

Good that the skimmer is working even better now. Mine is still acting weird after I changed the salt mix. I didnt want to switch but the local Petsmart doesnt carry Coralife any more.

You can see some cool stuff with a flashlight after the lights. I can only imagine if I had more live rock than base rock all the critters I would see come out.

Does using new salt change your dosing, or does it seem to keep your cal/mag/alk levels about the same as the other stuff during WC's? I've been meaning to test my newly mixed saltwater but never get around to it.

Oh and UPS dropped off one of the two packages today. Thought it was weird he didn't have both of them - the new t12 lights are still not here.

But I did get some pellet food: New life spectrum thera-a garlic.
a dual inline tds meter: my tap is 262 and my final water is 2ppm.
    another pound of granular GFO
and two 4x8" felt filter sock 200 micron w/ draw string (i saw felt and mesh, wasn't sure which to get?)

Wait till you get more SPS! The polyp extension is almost scary after lights out. The trumpet looks like it exploded from the inside!

Matter of fact, it does. With the Coralife, I didnt have to dose any, but Seachem, it raises the calcium more but not enough alk. Id dose bit alk to compensate. I hate the API color guessing game, so Ive never tested the newly made water either.

Nice! UPS here is kinda weird too: one guy shows up for the neighbor and no package for me in the morning. Mine shows up at 7:30pm..

Haha they cant resist the garlic!!
I guess my tap water is a bit cleaner: after RO is 2ppm and 0ppm after DI.
I think I have the same socks as yours. It gets clogged fast in my tank, I swap them every 4~ days.

Speaking of more SPS.. I'm trying my hand at a little ebay bidding for frags as we speak. Don't know how it will work out but wish me luck! One of the sponsors here only lives 50 miles away, so shipping is a lot cheaper than other sites I've looked at :)

(I spent so much money the past two days in getting new tires for my car and dental work done without insurance.. so it wasn't hard to talk myself into spending a little money on stuff I actually want :p)
