So yeah I feel pretty dumb right now, I cleaned the dual reactor and added new gfo and carbon. It was recommended I use half the gfo and change it out every 2 weeks with the carbon, and rinse it before putting carbon in. I let water run through it without the carbon, problem was after 2 1/2 gallons it was still not clear water and that's all the saltwater I had made, so I hooked it up and put a new filter sock over the outtake. That was friday, and the sock was pretty brown tonight. So I pulled it out of the sump without thinking, and BAM, my return chamber I pulled the sock from was instantly yellow. Made the water in the DT cloudy very quickly.

All this ten minutes after I put the new frags in. :-X

Congrats, Logan! I told the boss about your situation and she goes "HOW LUCKY, its not fair!" and I have to agree with her.

Whats the problem with the GFO? Just simple mistake that can be fixed easily?

Oh no... what can you do..? Keep changing the filter socks? Are the corals reacting to it?

lol it really isn't fair, don't pay for shipping, worry about being home for the ups guy, and there was a nice little sports bar a block down the road b/c I had time to kill before. I'm gonna have to bid on his stuff every couple weeks for sure!

IDK what to do, I def feel like I was neglectful the past 2 days b/c I was so busy. I had to rush to work 5 min after hooking up the reactor with the sock, and probably should have changed it an hour later if I could have.

This is how it looked. I'm obviously not doing a good enough job rinsing this stuff

When I clean my socks out i turn them inside out and rinse vigorously under tap it usually does the trick. I also rinse my GFO and carbon in tap water. In montana our water is pretty good to in dont risk losing my PO4 snatching power. one thing to think about if you want to rinse with saltwater is to wait for a water change. Sometime i put my GFO in a cup and then shake it with water to really aggitate the fines then pour off and repeat!

thanks I was about to ask you if I could be rinsing it before I put it in the chamber. It seems like I have a constant mess with this stuff so I gotta change how I'm doing it lol

So you don't think all the dust that released in the tank will destroy anything? I can blow it off the rocks once it settles tomorrow and do a water change

I always use the laundry machine to rinse the socks. After they are dry, I rinse them with RO/DI a few times.
