Thanks a lot John! They're already my favorite fish

Ooh I gotya. To be honest I haven't had the time yet to really look into Apex and ReefAngel, RK was just the first one I researched because it's in my price range (under 300). I feel like I still have a lot more to understand about them, but on the surface it looks like I'm getting a pH probe and 4 more outlets if I go with RK L3 > Apex Jr (Lite is more than I want to spend unless something really stands out to me)

Feel free to share some of the things that make you love it though, I'm all ears :p I'm gonna try to do some more reading tonight too

Ok I went Apex, because of the LED driver compatibility and the standard NET function (email notification and remote access). And I chose Apex Lite over Jr, because I wanted 8 power outlets and a sleek display. When I saw the Black Friday sale, which was 11% off, I had to take it :)

So if you dont need/want the NET function for now (you can always add the NET module later), Id go with RKL L3. If you dont care about the smaller display, you can go with RA too.

You got a lot to read :)

I really enjoy my Apex, I am not using the full functionality of the unit but for what I use it for I love it!

The iPhone app is really simple to use too.

Pretty much this. If you don't need LED DIY driver support (which you don't AFAIK, Halides right?) and don't care about paying the extra cash upfront for the NET(read wireless control if you have it worked into your network, you can still control all of the stuff from a GUI with the RKL through the USB port) then the RKL is the winner, the ReefAngel, while totally awesome requires a lot of set up and coding knowledge to maximize your controller functions. Too much work for a controller IMO, you want it to simplify your set up right? Not make it more complex.

If you want the built in net module, and have the need for 8 plugs vs the 4 that are included with the RKL, the you really need to move towards the Apex. This is because as you add more and more onto the RKL to compete with the included features of the Apex your math will show you that when compared side by side with all of the features included the Apex will be slightly cheaper.

^ very true, it's almost overwhelming sometimes. Luckily it all interests me so I don't mind the research :p

And I can't thank you all enough for the knowledge/opinions you give. I don't know what I'd do without ya'll lol!

I guess I don't need 8 outlets, I could go with the RK & pH probe for 200. Then add the DA float switch to the cart as well. That still leaves me at half the price of an Apex Lite

    Let's see, 4 outlets I could use:
1st outlet to link both my halide plugs
    2nd for heater
3rd for an external fan I hang behind the tank in case temp rises
    4th for ATO pump

There would be no harm in running my t12's off the current light timer I have them on, as well as the canopy fans. And the powerheads I have right now can't be used for wavemakers I don't believe so I wouldn't need plugs for them anyways.

BTW - got a few new frags tonight. Nothing special but I'll post pics when I get them out of the bag :)

Yup, plus if you wanted to do dosing in the future you could choose your dosing pumps and add a 2nd PC4 for about 220 bucks, which obviously 180 of that would be the pumps which you would need no matter what you chose.

    Looking forward to the update!

Haha, theres one reef store around here on the beach that has other pet things, I try using that to motivate my girl to buy something for the dog... and my tank (cough) but they just the other day switched to 100% aquatic stuff. no more dog bribery. lol
