Ok today I tackled the thing that all reefers most likely cringe when they think about. My first real water change. I have done some in the past but they were upgrade tank add bigger sump lalalala. My tank is 100gal and my sump 55gal about half full so figure 130 proximally so the amount I decided on was 30gal. Here is how I did it First I turned off the return from my sump but left my canister on which is two different systems. I then drained out 30gal using 5gal water bottles to insure accuracy. I then Used a 15gal tub formally used as my sump and filled it with tap water yes tap water mixed with Stress Coat + Tap Water Conditioner it’s the best I could do. After mixing the salt in like a big pot of soup I turned back on my return pump and adjusted the BAL valve one quarter and dropped a power head in the soup pot. When all water was back in the tank a dosed with stress coat for the fish and business as usual. Just for the heck of it I added some pictures.

i dont see any pictures...and rule of thumb is to let the mixed water (salt + water) sit for a full 24 hours to aerate. From what i read, you just mixed and dumped!! c'mon let's see some pics!!!!

The first thing I bought after the basic tank set up was my RO unit.
Not sure how well all those water conditioners, and stuff work. I just don't like the idea of additives, copper pipes, chlorine, ect. ect.

What are your nitrates up to?
