I have several different types of coral in my tank and all are doing very well. The zoas, palys, acans, cloves, yellow and star polyps are forming new polyps all the time. All are expanding with the exception of my long tentacle plate coral it just gets bigger. Will this thing form a new polyp at some point or does it reproduce in another way?

I was curious about this also since me and my husband would like to get one eventually, this is what I found so far [on wetwebmedia]:

"Reproduction: Reproduction can be sexual but is often encountered in the form of asexually produced daughter colonies, called anthocauli. These asexual bits grow and break off a parent, making their lives on the bottom separately. Fragmentation is another way Fungiids may be reproduced. This requires at most the breaking of a donor into six pieces."

and from a random google image search i found this on coralidea.com:

"Fungiids have a strong, dense skeleton which is best fragmented with a specialized stone cutting tool. Fragments of single mouth specimens need tissue from the mouth to do well in the long term. Cycloseris is not suited for fragmentation. If a coral becomes stressed or damaged it can produce buds which detach and grow into perfect miniatures of the parent."
