Hi everyone, I'm trying to start putting together a long-term plan for my tank (55gal FOWLR, not planning on adding corals -- will start a diff tank for that!). Currently I have a Yellow Tang in there, and am thinking of adding a blenny or a wrasse this week after I get some new water made up and do another water change.

I've currently got about 40lbs of crushed coral and 50lbs of LR in the tank (which is sadly getting covered with some dark red/maroon algae that the tang likes to pick at, but not really clean). Since it's only a 55gal, I would imagine I have at most 3 spots for fish left after the addition of the to-be-named fish.

So, what suggestions are there for a little color and variety for this tank? I was thiking of a coral beatuy at some point, but I'd like to get something that might have a bit more personality (a sand sifter, or something along those lines).

    TIA for any input.

A Blenny is a good choice IMO.
Most of them have a good personality and are bottom to mid level dwellers. So they are not going to compete with your tang for the same space. What type of Blenny were you looking at?

Blenny for sure. Cleaner shrimp are always fun. When I get my 75 set up I will be getting a coral beauty(overstock as is:()

I was thinking either a lawnmower or a midas for the blenny, going to talk to two local LFS's today.

Royal Gramma, great fish, not a jumper and won't harrass shrimp if you plan on keeping inverts. If you don't plan on keeping shrimp then consider
Six line wrasse, pseudochromis, valenti or false eyed puffers(they get about 3-4 inches ), long nose hawk fish (beware they are jumpers along with the pseudochromis), gold bar maroon clown to name a few.
