I bought the third inhabitant for my tank today, a long nose butterfly. I put him in the QT, which uses the water from my main display and I tested the water before I added him. I acclimated him for around 2 hours.

He looks fine colour wise, but his behaviour is a little odd, I have read that they can be odd but thought I would ask.

I have a HOB filter, and a small powerhead to agitate the water. I also have a piece of LR. What he seems to be doing is swimming under the return flow from the HOB, but he is looking up. He is maintaining his position without rising or falling. If I move towards the tank, he rights himself, raises his spines, swims towards me slowly, then turns back swims to the same place and maintains the same position.
he's doing because of new surroundings?

That's pretty normal in a new environment. Assuming your QT is fairly small, he may stay like that most of the time until introduced into the DT.

Thanks Bill, came down this morning and he is swimming around. The QT is pretty small about 18g, so it's reassuring to hear you say it's normal. Thanks again

Further observation, I have a small powerhead, which I switched off when I put some food in, and he was swimming around. When I put the powerhead on again, he went back to the looking up position. Does this mean he doesn't like the powerhead, or is it because of the sudden change in environment? I have switched it off again, and he is swimming around?
