I purchased this carpet anenomie like 2 days ago and he isn't looking so good. His mouth was pretty big at the fish store, but nothing was coming out like it is now. In my tank he is a little deflaited, still has good colore, and reacts if you touch him. Still sticky, but also looks like he might be going down hill.

Water perm. are good, and I should have enough light. Two 175W MH and two CF acintic bulbs that are 48". 90G tank, 80-81 degrees, salinity at about 1.023. Please take a look at the pictures and see if it looks like its getting used to the tank, or getting ready to kill everything in the tank.

Also, I tried feeding him today and he didn't eat the krill.

    Thanks.

I'm no expert on nems, so don't take this as gospel. :)

First. Your sand looks pretty clean. How old is your tank? Most experienced folks recommend waiting 6 months to a year (depending on who you talk to) before even attempting a nem.

Second. What are your specific parameters besides temp and SG? PH, Amm/Nitrites/Nitrates? Have you measured these yourself? Have you taken a sample to your LFS to verify your readings?

Third. Here's where I'm speculating... That looks pretty bad. Please tell me that we're looking at an upside-down nem with its foot in the air.

IIRC the usual advice when they may be dying is to move them to a quarantine tank as soon as possible. If a QT isn't available, the usual advice is to watch very carefully and to remove as soon as they start the jellyfication (yes.. I did.) process.

That really sucks, hope it pulls through for you.

if the anemones mouth was big at the fish shop, do you mean open by chance??if so tbh, it may of died anyway. although its hind sight, you should watch/inspect nems before you purchase them, even just buying them but leaving them at lfs for a week or two(i did with my second one)..... the advise that wildblue has given you is pretty solid,so if your tank is a good few months old and water etc is fine, i would say the nem was dying before you got it!! all the best though and dont give up on it!!!

Agree with everything mentioned above. A tight mouth is the first thing I look for in a healthy nem. If you're working this week go ahead and flush it down the toilet. But, if you're home, keep a very good eye on it. Sorry bud.

Thanks for the input guys. Checked on him this morning and still looking ok. Mouth still wide open, but not as mush as last night. When I turned on the overhead light he reacted to it a little, so I suspect he still is alive. I will have my brother check the water when he gets home from work in a couple hours.

One thing I noticed is two small ball sized slimy something close by the nem. Possibly it had to rid some wastes? It looked a little red or pink in color, but it was hard to tell without the DT lights on.

    Thanks again.

hi again, i read first post your post again and thats why i asked how it was going. in my experience, if the foot is still sticky/attached and they react to light or touch then they canbe still very much alive and still pull through. they do periodically "shrivel" down to expel waste/toxins from there body, like pooing through there mouth and usually you do get small ball shaped clumps.hook them out.. i will just ask a couple of things though, how often and what are you feeding your nem.?? also you still havn"t mentioned how long your tank has been set up etc?? also was the mouth open when you bought it and did you see them removed it from the tank??(incase the foot got torn)

i do hope the nem pulls through though, too many of these weird but wonderful animals are lost.....good luck

last pointer for you, i did actually poison my last one with some old fish,it looked similair to yours for 3-4 days and then bounced right back!!!!!

The nem wasn't looking good last night when I got off work. He was starting to deteriate around the edges and wouldn't respond to me touching him at all. Also the water was getting a little clowdy, so I decided to flush him.
