Thank you kindly, one and all.

Believe me I have a VERY healthy respect for all the animals in my tank and put my hands in very carefully, always while wearing a pair of diving gloves for protection :) ( not that these would help by the sounds of it )

REGARDLESS, DEFINATELY BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR HANDS NEAR MANTIS!!![/quote]

Unlike most reefers, I love the little buggers. In fact, I paid for mine and set up a 2.5 gallon nano tank specifically for the little bugger. Very cool little critter, I must say. I am very tempted to set up a larger tank just so I can keep a peacock :)

I was surprised yesterday, one of the local LFS had them for sale too :) $10 each.

Ya know, I've seen a hell of a lot of mantis for sale myself lately. I'm not sure if it's a new phenomena or if I'm just noticing them because I started keeping one. Some people even go so far as to buy a certain type of live rock just so they can get their hands on one! :)

Good luck with the mantis, I have a peacock at home and watching it is one of my favorite hobbies. The way it rearranges the tank and all the snail shells that it has emptied is pretty wild. I have a clip of it feeding, once I get it transfered to my pc I'll try and post it. While I was in Italy on vacation I went to a supermarked and the seafood dept had dozens of mantis' for sale, too bad they were already dead. Definately not peacocks, looked more like spearers with the long eyes not the round ones. Also they didn't have clubbed elbows and they looked like they were boiled as they were white in color, even the feathers underneath them.

I came across a site the other day that had them in stock. At the moment, lack of sleep is causing me to forget where that was, but I'll let you know if I find it again.

These guys have them listed, but you have to email to check availability:

They sound like an interesting pet and it may be nice to see it take care of my arrow crab...similar to the way he took care of my firefish. Oops, did I say that out loud?
