Well my wife and kids have been bugging me for years about getting a dog!! A man can only say NO so many times before he reaches a breaking point and I am starting to succumb to the pressure. Also the fact that I have started my tanks up in the last six months and spent thousands has a little to do with it.

So today we go to meet a Great Dane Breeder. Very reputable lady who does shows and has written many books so not just one of those breeding farms(I hate those). We are going to meet the father today and the mother next week as she is with another breeder. Today the breeder is going to introduce us to many of her Danes ranging in age from 4 months to retired show dogs.

They next litter is not until July so my wife is doing her research as this is her responsibility.

So if we get the horse/dog we will have 2 ferrets, 3 cats, 2 salt water tanks, 1 fresh water, and a koi pond.

UGH! Degs..........(;)). Not a fan. And a Great Dane? Sounds like a little more than a "succumb". j/k, have fun and good luck with your new venture.

Ya they are quite the breed. We had our first meet with the breeder yesterday and got acquainted with about 7 of her Champion dogs and 2 which are working on champion status. Ages ranged from 8 down to 10 months just to get some understanding of personality of the dogs. All were Female as she prefers female and does not want any drama in the house by having males also.

We spent 2 and a half hours talking to her about the breed and problems associated with them. Talked about family lines and certifications etc etc... They are not a puppy farm so they only breed 1 dog at a time so the next batch is not do until june and then they keep them about 12 weeks as they will pick a couple to keep and then go through the applications to decide who they feel is the best fit for the other puppies. They also have you tell them if you are going to show them or just keep as a house pet. My oldest daughter is interested in learning more about showing so we are going to buy a book about it and also take her to a junior show in the next month to see if it would be something she really wanted to do. We want a female so that also limits things.

Anyways we have a few months to think things over and do our research. Will have to keep you all posted.

My kids are bugging me for a dog when Mr. Kiddy passes on. I just need to bury the invisible fence in the yard and I'm ready. A dog bring so much unconditional love to the home.

If we do get the Great Dane that will be a lot of unconditional love. Their disposition would fit in nicely with our family.

Inwall.. Oh ya it is funny how they back right up to the couch and sit that way.

The dogs we saw yesterday were unbelievable. Such a proud dog.

We had a Doberman Pinscher who would do that! Most people were terrified of her anyways, and it freaked them out when she plopped next to them on the couch - butt on the couch, front legs on the floor! She would actually turn her head side to side, like she was following the conversation. It was really weird....

its all about how the dog was raised, i would say most toy dogs a meaner then guard dog breeds, because people raise them as babies and let them get away with being mean since there small.

    side-note: scooby-doo was a great dane
