I'm looking to put in a water softener. I know this isn't exactly reef equipment, so, if it needs to be moved, feel free. However, I will be looking forward to using the softened water for my RO/DI and whatnot...

This is the water softener I am looking at. We have a 2 bath, 3 person household.

Anyone have any experience with these or is there something else I can look at?

    Thanks!

Sears, Lowes and Home Depot are hard to beat for water softeners. You can get a good one for less than $500 at all three. My Sears unit is around 8 years old now and going strong.

    Cool, thanks!

Do you have any input on the water softeners that say they also remove iron/manganese? That's why I'm thinking about the unit above, however, I don't know if that's just one of those unnecessary options.

Oh, I forgot to add Milwaukee's water parameters.

    Thanks again!

A traditional water softener will remove about 1 mg/L of dissolved iron but it does not appear you have an iron problem so I wouldn't worry about it.

So, checking out sears online, this one comes up.

I like saving money on getting rid of the extra iron filter. I honestly was only looking at that for the benefit of my reef water.

Once I knew that we were getting a water softener and I knew exactly where I needed to go to ask!

Thanks ADR! You are an awesome resource for water. I see it all over the forums, not just this one. It's great to have people in this hobby that really help out other people like this.

On a side note, I found one of your posts on here about adding a wye valve where my washer hooks up and then put an adapter with a compression fitting for my RO/DI feed and my pressure went up 30 psi over the needle valve. Yay!!

So, thanks once again! You've help me with 2 problems this week!! What a guy! :D
