I have this rock in the center of my tank that I want to grow a coral across. It's more of a flat rock and it's back edges support the rocks above it. Because of that I want something that will grow across the rock instead of vertically and also something that I can cut inside the tank to frag since I really can't remove this rock.

I was thinking about some kind of Zoas, but I don't want any of their toxin released when cutting them in the tank. Any suggestions?

The location has moderate to high lighting and moderate to strong flow.

You able to post a pic of your tank showing where and whats around it? Might make a better suggestion if we see whats going on. :)

eh the toxins fro zoos would be pretty minimal if you are going only a little at a time...other suggestions i would say mushrooms(regular, rhodactis, ricordea, yuma, etc), also you could do just about any leather, (if you want them, I'm not sure) xenia/kenya, just about any soft corals would be fine but i personally like ricordea or next in line id say rhodactis...or you could always just put a nem there

Should have put info on my tank up, sorry. It's a 26 gal bow front. 24 by 21 high.

The rock is roughly triangle shaped. Would say I got about 6 inches from end to end, and about six inches from the middle of the base to the tip, which points to the front of the tank.

I don't have any pictures with my new scape, I'll try to take some when I get a chance.

The Xenia or Kenya tree would grow too high for my liking, but I really like the mushrooms you mentioned. Would they put up with a stronger flow and medium to high lighting?

mine seem to grow in any flow i place them in...as for lighting i couldnt telly you because i have medium low lighting right now but my LEDs should be in soon

as for if you dont like the height but do like xenia there is other forms like pom pom xenia which doesnt get very tall or anthelia is similar etc

you could also go with clove polyps, theres tons of different colors on those....also gsp is another option if you dont mind maintaining it so it doesnt overtake your tank

another thing to consider is Sympodium sp. I think it would fit the bill, based on your description. As to zoanthids, even a small cut can release a significant amount of toxin, palytoxin is one of the most potent, naturally produced toxins on earth. However, it is only found in some zoanthids, and it is organic, and should be removed readily by GAC. If your cutting zoanthids in your tank, it is a good idea to wear gloved though.
