Ahhh...I see. as suggested, I would ask John with Reef Cleaners then. He'll give you the answer you're looking for.

Everything is zero but they said my ph levels were a little low but they said it should be fine. My ph levels were 8.0..

A pH reading of 8.0 is fine. 7.8 is low, but still tolerable. If it were out of range, I'd suggest that you test and adjust your cal, mag and alk rather than using common off-the-shelf buffers. (What's in that pH UP and pH DOWN stuff, anyway?)

Back on topic, are you having nuisance algae problems, and what type of sandbed do you have (live or "dry", deep or shallow, etc)?

I don't think so. You can look at my rock under a the live rock section. I am new to salt water tanks and this is a new tank. I have a live sand bed and it is shallow.

Well, you sound like you're in good shape without a sand-bed cleaner. No algae, no nutrients means no food for a sand sifter. Keep your nutrients in check and the flow up and you shouldn't need a sand sifter. jmo

By nutrients I mean nitrates, phosphates etc. Those are what is placed in fertilizer for farm and house hold use. In this case, those come from excrement and fish waste (I.E manure). Algae thrives off of the nutrients and your "sand sifter" will feed off of the algae. if you nutrients and algae are kept in check (as they are), your sand sifter won't have anything to feed off of.

For me, controlling my nutrients is easier than managing the algae. I solve the problem from the source instead of masking an issue. I've done my time with algae breakouts (from tap water, over feeding, minimal water changes etc.).
