How warm is the room the tank is in? what kind of heater are you using? How many power heads or pumps? Could be a lot of things...

80 isnt that bad, but Im more concerned with your mag level. Are you dosing anything? What about cal, ph, alk, po4, nh3/4, no2 and no3? Are you using a salt mix? If so, have you tested the water before pouring it into the tank? Just keep in mind that even when you find the problem, it isnt going to be fixed over night. Luna

I agree with most already said.

First and for most is to get your water chemistry in 'spec' then develop a way to keep it there. This might be as simple as daily supplements or as complex as the addition of a kalk or CA reactor. Minimize temp and PH swings. This sort of thing will not happen over night but over a few weeks or months.
But first we need to determine where we are.
    Mg 800
    CA ?
    ALK ?
    PH Day ?
    PH Night ?
    Ammonia ?
    Nitrite ?
    Nitrate ?

    Are you adding any supplements?

    testing done last night
    mag 800
    phos 0
    nitrate 0
    nitrite 0
    amon 0
    ph 8.4
    kh 89.5
    calc 380
    salinity 1.023
    temp 80

    i use
    kent kalkwasser
    kent essential elements
kent tech-M (just started last night)
    seachem reef complete
    seachem reef buffer
    seachem reef builder

all dosed by instructions and testing

instant ocean salt when doing water changes

how often can i add tech-m to raise mag to proper levels?

looking at getting a calc reactor if it will help to keep everything where it is supposed to be

For some reason you have an issue with Alk(dkh), Mag and Cal. All three are low, imo. The only reason that my levels ever get that low is if I stop dosing for them. How many corals do you have? It seems like there is something thats either comsuming or not letting you raise those 3 levels. My levels drop b/c I have many corals. Im still thinking......are you dosing enough? Are you dosing them all at the same time? Remember that when you dose, you need to take into consideration your whole system, not just the DT. Luna

possibly may not be enough? is it possible to dose more then what it says
i will test again tomarrow afternoon
i do know that when i dose calc it looks like it is snowing in the tank, not alot of snow but enough to se it

That may be the problem, when dosing Kalk, after you have mixed it, your supposed to let it sit for several hrs and only dose the clear water and not the milky water. That "snow" will precipitate Cal and other elements. Luna

when i do the kalk i mix it in a 2 liter bottle then let it sit overnight then i drip into my sump at the return area
i use a hospital IV setup that is up in the bottle about 2 inches from the botton so that it clears the sediment part of the mix and i only get the clear liquid mix
is there a better way to raise the calcium ? alkalinity?
