I decided to modify the canopy on my fluval tank and get a good skimmer but I don't like the noise it produces inside the tank. I have the Maxi-Jet 1200 running the Remora skimmer but it has a loud hum throughout the tank. I check for anything that may be loose and vibrating. Is that healthy for the animals to have that constant hum throught the tank? I used a Rio pump a couple of years ago which produced the same hum throughout the tank thats why I stopped using the internal pumps.

    Thanks :)

Are there any quiet submersible pumps to run the Aqua C Remora?

Do you think the Maxi-Jet 1200 might be a bad pump?

Will the RIO 800 be better because its less Gph rating?

Do all pumps make that loud hum throughout the tank and is it bad for livestock?

Have you ever cleaned the maxi-jet impeller?
I would remove mine and fill the void with vinegar and put it back in and let it soak for an hour. Then wipe it off - like new and should be quiet.

Assuming it's mounted correctly, I suppose it could be bad. It should be noticeably quieter than the RIO you had.

Yes, I double checked everything. How much noise should you hear from the pump? I know skimmers always have noise but this is a loud hum. I'm not sure if this is to be expected with in the tank pumps. Should you hear the pump hum or are they mostly silent when you have your ear close to the tank?

You should hear it a bit. But again it's a lot quieter than the RIO. So if it's as loud, then there is a problem.
