    All,

I'm looking for a skimmer to be placed in the sump in the stand below the tank.
For this reason I would like it to be a quiet skimmer..

Preferably something that will also serve me if I decide to upgrade the tank to 180G, with a 40 Gallon breeder sump

Price range, approximately $400 used or new but ideally around 250-300

Any suggestions? Quiet & performance is most important...

For a decent skimmer you will be spending at least $400, you will want a 8" body skimmer with at least 800lph of air intake. My suggestions are based on your 180 gal upgrade

    SRO 3000
Reef Dynamics INS180 or INS250....depending on bioload

How about the Super Reef Octopus 2000? I saw different reviews, some stating it can be noisy, others stating that it's quiet...

I have an 8 inch Reef Octopus that's about 5 or 6 years old. I'm not sure exactly what model it is but I believe it is the NW 200. I feed 2 times/day minimum and my rabbit fish always has algae in the clip and he eats a sheet nearly every day. With all of this being said, my tank stays clean, no nitrate. I am a fan of octopus.
