I got a Magnificent Anemone from my LFS and on Thursday and had done some reading about what they like to eat.

I am wondering if others have these and what they are feeding them.

I tried Silverside, and krill but it just ended up letting it go. I also read that it likes mussels and tried a thawed cub of that which most of it ended up floating in the tank.

I have also read they feed on plankton and derive nutrition from symbiotic zooxanthellae harbored within cells lining the inside of the tentacles and oral disc.

I will be calling the LFS tomorrow to see what they had been feeding it(Dumb me forgot to ask this when I was there..got over excited with all the other things I was getting that this question slipped my mind).

    So any input is appreciated.

The LFS probably never fed it anything.

Always amazed that some LFS will let go of animals without giving a rundown of proper care....

I would be surprised if they had not feed it as they are a very reputable LFS. I spent about 2 hours with them discussing different things. They are a family owner LFS, having a 350 and 150GL reef tanks at home. They are both divers and actually run diving excursions and coral collection trips.

I have seen many of LFS in my time and this is by far the most knowledgeable, cleanest and most honest people I have met in the business. They went as far as going over a list of fish I was thinking about getting and said yes or no to them and gave reasons why. They are definitely not just out for a sale.

With that said I know where you are coming from Bogie

I was just saying that maybe they got the anemone shipped in on Friday and acclimated it, then you bought it before they even attempted to feed it? Some livestock isn't in a tank at LFS long enough to even eat a meal before it's bought.

If no one has experience with the Magnificent anemone can you all tell me how often you all feed your anemone and what type of foods you guys use. I know they all don't like the same things and probably feeding schedules may vary but this knowledge will only make me a better aquarist.

scenario1313 thanks for that link.. I had actually found that one. It is not very large at this time but seems like that will change. Does seem to be some conflicting information on these out on the Web but isn't that the way with everything. One thing for sure that sucker has already moved 3 times. May end up finding it's way to the 135 quicker then I wanted but at least I have somewhere to move it to.
