    Hi:

It's time to start shopping for the new 300. Does anyone know of a source around Chicago?

    Thanks,

    Bruce

I really don't want to pay for 300 lbs. of LFS sand. Any ideas?

If you are willing to drive to Indianapolis, I know someone who might be willing to sell you what you want. She set up a 210 and then decided to go barebottom as opposed to DSB As a result, she had a bunch sitting in her garage the last time I visited with her. Another bonus would be that she only lives 4 miles from http://www.premiumaquatics.com/ which is a fun place to go to. (They aren't always open on weekends though).

PM me if you are interested and I can help set it up for you.

Yikes, that is 7+ hours round trip and $60ish of gas. Thanks, but that isn't happening. I've got a brother in law who is an assistant manager at a local HD. I'm going to ask if he can order a couple of skids. I'm pretty sure that if I post it here and at RC it will walk out of the store. It's still listed under Old Castle isn't it?

yes, but they also sell silica sand under that name too....you still have to do the vinegar test if you want to verify that it is aragonite.

It says it on the bag. If it doesn't say Aragonite, it's silica. When I found it last year in Elmhurst it was under a different brand, but I forgot what it was called.

great...sounds like they updated their packaging. That should help aquarists out a lot.

There's nothing wrong with silica sand in spite of what I've read on the boards (the glass in your tank is made of silicates). It's only disadvantage as that it doesn't offer buffering. (Actually, the aragonite doesn't do this even remotely as much as people think anyway). However, that's a subject for a different thread.

Has anyone had any luck finding any Southdown/Old Castle Tropical Play Sand in the Chicagoland area? I'm looking for about 500 lbs (ten bags)
