Sorry, another newbie question, Where do you recommend getting live sand from? Nearest LFS is 2.5 hrs away. So what is the best place to order from? How much sand is recommended for a 240gal tank? It's 75in X 30in.

    Thanks again folks!

Not to dodge your question here, but why live sand? The only difference b/w the two is time and no critters. Sure the critters are great, but your LR over time will add them. If you needed 200 lbs. of sand, and used 185 lbs of dry, bagged, aragonite sand, and 15 pounds of seed sand from a buddy's tank, or an LFS's tank, or no live sand at all for that matter--and just used a few pieces of LR, you can cycle the tank by the normal method and in about 10-14 weeks you'd be "there."

However, to answer your question, here's an equasion you can use. In inches, multiply the footprint of your tank by the depth of sand you want, in inches. Then divide by 19.2.

For example, for a 55 gallon aquarium that's 48" x 12", if you wanted 3" of sand, do this:
    48*12*3/19.2.

    48*12*3=1152
    1152 divided by 19.2 = 90 lbs.

    Got it? :)

I live in Yuma, AZ so San Diego and Phoenix are both about 2.5 hours away.

Also I came up with 234.3lbs of sand for my tank, doing 2 inches deep.
