all of my coralline is green with very few spots of purple orange spots here and there also. I was looking for the thread that describes on what causes the diff types of coralline.

Different colors are different species. Different species grow at different rates; IME, green grows fastest, but purple dominates long term.

I had about 13 lbs of rock, covered in coraline algae. I moved houses and added 24 more lbs, this time dry rock, and when I added the LR in again it had t turned green. I think it turns color due to less light exposure, as well as less bacteria to filter. The reason being because I had the LR all in 1 bucket when we moved. I had a heater in it until set-up. The only thing different about the rock's environment was that there was no sand in the bucket and I had a lid on it\(less light).

I've read that it can be the amount of iodine or the amount of light.
In my personal experience though, I think they just have different growth rates. When my tank first started getting coralline it was all green, now after a few months it's almost all purple/pink. I changed nothing.

Some of the pink has been shifting to green in my tank. It seems like the same spots, not new spots. Coralline is strange stuff. It seems to exhibit different behavior depending on where it grows.

i got a nice piece of orange growing at the bottom of my rock. alot of mine has just stayed green. pink purple usually does better in reef tanks, due to those certain elements (iodine, Cal, and mag)

i think my hermit crabs might be eating my coralline. it seems when the pink/purple stuff starts to grow it than all of a sudden is gone. all though i do have it on rock that came in with a coral on it. so im not sure why the branch rock isnt covered with it yet. why it shows up than is gone????? but the blue spot keeps growing.
