I've been looking around for a 90gal tank w/ an overflow to buy and out of my LFSs the best price is $1100 :-X for the tank, stand, canopy, some plumbing parts, and a florescent light. Online I've found some for around $850-$900 but that does not include shipping which in some cases was $200+ so no real savings there that I could find.

Has anyone ever purchased a tank online or do most people buy them from the LFS? Does $1100 seem reasonable? I live in Southwestern Connecticut if that is helpful.

Just trying to see if I could save some money on the tank/stand. Thanks!

i dont think you have to pay that much. check on craigslist. im in western ma and central ma has alot of people with tanks. i regularly see people selling their entire reef systems with livestock....125 gallons...for around 1000.

Or buy the tank and DIY your own stand and canopy.

I was thinking about DIY however I don't know how much I'd trust myself with that type of weight bearing down on the stand, plus my girlfriend's one request is that it looks as nice as a piece of furniture. As for craiglist, not a bad idea! I'll have to look around to see if there are any selling in the area.

    Thanks!

I live in Vegas, but I +1 Skierg, I see people listing tanks on Craigslist all the time for half that or less empty. Once they're empty, those tanks take up huge amounts of room in the garage. I remember once I had a 75 for a project that I changed my mind on, and boy was I eager to get rid of it! Ended up taking 300 for the tank, stand, and canopy! Also look for local reef clubs. I know there are some in your area, certainly within an hour or so drive. I see them going all the time there for <500...

    You can go alot cheaper!
