Hey all, I am looking into starting a nano cube. I am looking to buy either a 14g or better yet a 29g. I am still deciding on what I want to put in it. I was thinking maybe a mantis shrimp of some sort, or maybe even an octopus. But here is my question, which octopus comes out in the daylight the most and what shrimp could I keep in a 14g if any at all. Also a figure on the price per week on food would be ideal as well.

Hmm...octopus are very difficult to care for and don't live very long.

I don't wanna burst your bubble but I think Octopus should be left in the wild...they won't have a happy life in captivity and as Seano said they are very hard to care for.Without excellent water quality(filtration) and space for him to really stretch...hes gonna be miserable and will probably die.
I think Nano tanks are good for corals and small fish.I had a 24 gallon Nano cube...its was a good start for me....I realized about 2 weeks later...it was too small for the fish I wanted, the wet dry filter wasn't keeping up with waste,it was hard to find a skimmer that will do a good job let alone fit inside the back(wet dry compartment).Yes the nano skimmer fit in the wet dry compartment but it wasn't doing its job..not to mention it was 24 gallons without my live rock(best bio you can have)....the more rock you put in...the less water it will ultimately have.I'm not trying to discourage you...just think about what you would ultimately want...most successful tanks you see aren't small...and usually have a sump.I.M.O small tanks have more chance in crashing...a simple water change not done properly can crash the tank.TRUST ME I KNOW...like I said I'm not trying to discourage you...it just seems like for the livestock you want...your not picking the best tank for. I would really look into a tank with a sump...if your going with the octopus...the better water flow the better filtration...the better your chances of him being happy.Good Luck!! :)
