I currently have 2 250watt 14k bulbs on my tank Pheonix brand, it gives that awesome shimmer and a slightly bluer tint to my tank but I am looking for something to make my corals stand out as well as provide excellent growth for my corals but not so much that it makes my tank look ridiculously blue or purple. I was wondering what wattage actinic wise I should place over my tank along with my MH. It is a 4ft long tank 2ft deep and 2ft wide.

Hey DD - how ya been? Havn't seen you around in a while !

The 14K MH’s you are using are a nice blue effect and the shimmer as you mentioned from the MH is fantastic. I use three 250 Watt HQI MH’s at 15K In addition I run four 96 watt PC 50/50 and go with 10K / 420NM

I find this to be a very good (in my opinion perfect) mix – great coral growth and great visual effect.

as far as growth, the more daylight bulbs you have the more growth you will, the actinic are used to color the corals up..you might wanna try maybe an 18k t5 bulb..the GLO brand 18k has a nice pinkish white color, not really sure how good GLO bulbs are but alot of fish stores around here carry them, i have one of them and its pretty bright, brighter than some 10Ks i have seen..

Hey crimson been pretty good except for the incident with shipping out some frags, it seems it got to cold in the boxes I put them in, either fed ex did something or the heat packs I used did not work but I am filing a claim so everythings good. I was looking to get some actinic on my tank to give it a nice pop to my corals while adding a bit more wattage to the tank, I think I only have 5.5watts per gallon at the moment and could use a bit more. I will most likely buy another ballast for a few actinic bulbs.
