Open brain, got it about 2 weeks ago. at nigh it semi-inflates, but all day long it stays all shrivelled looking. it does eat a little, ive gotten it to eat a couple of mysis. I will be doing a water change along with adding a skimmer tonight, then i will re-test my parameters again. Any ideas as to why I have never seen the feeder tentacles or why it doesnt stay inflated?

We need more info on your set up. Lighting, paras and placement of coral to name a few.

    And pics, right? ;D

Lighting is 6 t5ho's, 4 actinics and 2 18000k's. 29 gallon, brain is placed on the sand bed at the bottom in minimal flow. Once i get the skimmer/water change done i will have some numbers on the paramaters for yall. As of last week, the params were normal, i dont remember the numbers but everything was good. oh and Sg is 1.023/.024

I've also noticed it seems the skeleton is starting to show in some spots (kind of like a receding hair line)

Your lighting is fine and so is the SG. It could be one of your paras that is off or maybe someone is nipping at it. The fact that your able to see some of its skeleton is not a good sign.

..this may be way out there...but..do you have a ground probe? My brain became hard as a rock a few years back...seemed I was shocking the system ..literally....cheap investment/insurance....once I put in the ground probe..brain was cool...not saying this is your problem...but when I seen the picture, I thought of mine....looked the same...but like I said earlier...hows everything else? you have other livestock? yes?

hmmm I dont see how i could be having any electrical issues, wood canopy and no wires touch anything, but i will put a meter on it later today.

I have 2 clowns, 2 scooter dragonets, stylophora, zoas, xenias, couple shrooms, sun coral, and an acan lord. everything but the stylo and brain seem to be doing fine. oh and of course a CUC

...the electrical thing is just an after thought....dont want to get off track...its like the guy who had so many unknown problems...come to find out someone dropped a penny in his tank...or so the story goes....just sometimes we over look the obvious...but in your case...electric current bleed stress would show on all critters...
did ya look under it as to bristle worms bore in from the back and chow down? ..just throw'n another bone. : ) ??

get a electrical reader and check, your pumps, skimmer anything can produce current to minute amounts that affect everything, I didnt have 1 since I started but I got 1 now and wish I always had it, its for piece of mine. I would go with the current in your tank or a fish is being mean to it. Happened to my chalice my tang and puffer kept messing with it, had to give it away in the end since it was about to die.

Did you get the brain from a lfs or a local person. Could be crazy stressed and not like were its at, try putting it halfway up your tank and let it sit for a week or 2 and see if that helps, what are you feeding it? Try getting your sg up to atleast 1.025, I keep mine on the high end of things to about 1.027. Ugg it sux when it could be somethign simple and stupid or overlooked, I hope you find out the cause and save that pretty coral, good luck mate and keep us posted.
