I have had 2 Ocellaris Clowns for about 6 months. One was a little BW and the other, a larger orange (the dominant one). About two weeks ago my little BW Ocellaris jumped ship and I found the poor little guy behind the tank. I had noticed some aggresion between the two of them since transferring them to my new tank.

I was bummed cause I loved my little BW guy, so I decided to try to add another Ocellaris to replace him. I ended up getting a smaller orange one and added him to the tank last weekend. Well, as expected, the larger existing clown was aggresive towards the smaller one (basic chasing, nothing extreme). Over the past week things calmed a bit, but last night I noticed I couldn't find my larger clown. I moved some things around by my stand and there I found her, really bummed me out. Sucks to lose them both so close together.

So now I'm thinking of taking this new one back and getting an existing pair together from the LFS. I'm confused as to how the new clown survived, he was the one being harrased, I have no idea why these clowns jumped, never had any trouble in the past with them jumping.

I will miss them, they were a great pair:

Sorry to hear. All the more reason for a Nylon Screen top from BRS. Getting an established pair could be better, however, I'd still implement a screen top, just incase.

OMG I'm so sorry! I know its a hard loss because I love my clowns deeply. I have ordered the clear screening last week in hopes to get it this week to prevent a tragedy like that. RIP little clowns :(

so sorry to hear this. Clowns can be somewhat tricky sometimes, as they are actually damselfish. Things sometimes get especially sketchy when you try to add a new one to a tank with an older one, with established territory. I think starting with a new pair is a good idea and overall, it sounds like you're on the right track.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the sentiments. Clowns pairs were kinda the foundation of both of my tanks so it def was rough losing them both. I'm def going to invest in the clear mesh and get that on there asap. I'll hold off to get a new pair until that top is on and secure.

Complete bummer. I'd be more then upset if my pair did that. I've never really thought of a lid to my tank but now my gears are turning...so thank you for that. You may have saved my clowns.
