Just throwing this out there, but any theories on what could have been wrong? Like I said, he looked great, bright colors, swimming well, eating well...

Theres really no way to say what went wrong, but remember one thing about this hobby, nothing good happens over night, only bad. Luna

Im so sorry :( i've only lost a couple of ceriths and a hermit but the pain is the same.

On a technical point im a bit concerned that a koralia was able to hold a healthy fish in that way, was it larger than a koralia 2? Thats the largest i have in my tank ( also K1 + nano) and it would not have enough suctions to cause that.

Either way sound like a design flaw.

Once again i am sorry for your loss, im sure he/she has gone to the big Aiptasia garden in the sky :)

    Thanks all.

I had him for about 2 months. I've only had my aquarium (well this one anyway) for about a year and probably within the last 6 months or so started adding more expensive fish. Had a few damsels, cheap clowns, etc. initially

Definitely a bummer! But, just glad it wasn't my two clowns...Geez if they died, I might have to go into formal mourning!!

What bugs me is I've got everything right in the tank now and still lost a fish...oh well. Kept a close eye on everybody else today, and they all look fine.

@BayBud - big Aptasia garden in the sky LOL

My wife is sad he died, but tells me I can't get another one...she wants the feather dusters back ;D

Sorry for your loss, Koralia's are becoming known for sucking up healthy fish.

    Sorry for your loss.

Totally agree with Jason on this one. Copperbanded butterflies are one of the hardest fish to maintain so there must have been something wrong with the fish to cause it to become weak in the first place.

I have two Koralia #4's in my tank and have never had an issue with fish being sucked in. My six-line wrasse and flame angel are pretty small fish and swim circles around the powerheads with no problem.

I have gone through two copperbanded butterflies and both died the same death.....no sign of illness, eating and swimming and then after a couple of weeks death within hours.

Beautiful fish but not for me at this point. Maybe in a couple of years I'll try again as this fish needs a very mature tank, pristine water conditions and docile neighbors.

    Again, sorry for your loss.

I have a friend that tries to keep them as well, even with pristine conditions their just really hard to keep alive. I think one of the biggest issues is they like to eat aptasia and algae that has nearly 0 nutritional value so their always hungry and feeding but getting nothing they need to stay alive off of

Though what you have to remember also is they are a live being, sometimes they just die for no good reason
