I lost my lawnmower blenny last night. I had him in my 90 gallon for almost two years, but recently noticed he was getting very skinny as he at all of the green algae in the tank. I moved him over to newer (10 month old) 65 gallon in hopes he would fatten back up on the algae in that tank but when i returned home today he was missing. I have searched all over the tank and he is nowhere to be found, my only guess is that he died last night and my skeletor moray ate him. Would a moray eat a dead blenny? The moray is approx 12-14 inches and the blenny was 3-4 inches, but skinny. The eel came right out when I came home today looking for food so I do wonder if he ate the blenny or not as that would have been a pretty big meal for him.
Here are a few pics of the skeletor eel for size reference

A dead one? probably not, but a live one would be quite the feast. Morays are predators, not scavengers, and usually don't deviate from nature unless it's extremely hungry. OTOH, even if the sizes were to the best advantage (14" & 3"), there would still be a very noticeable lump in the eel's belly, and he wouldn't be looking for more any time soon.

Do you have a cover? If not, have you checked the floor around the tank? Do you have any cats or dogs in the house? What about CuC? Any at all in that tank? You'd be surprised how fast a 3 or 4 inch fish can disappear with just a few hermits or crabs.

I do have a top on the tank, so it was not a jumper. I have a small clean up crew, only 4-5 hermits, no crabs. Could 4-5 very small hermits devour the entire blenny overnight??

my snowflake always begged for food even if he had just been fed. I think the blenny found his way to the dinner plate.

I think Scotty beamed him up.

    Sorry for your loss.

You'd be surprised at how much they can eat, and how quickly. I give mine a small chunk of fish or shrimp occasionally, and it's gone in no time. I've also had 4 - 5 inch fish vanish in just a few hours with nothing but other similar-sized fish and a handful of hermits in the tank. I have always kept my tanks covered too, BTW.
