Ya I think it was a hunger issue like you said. And sleeping in the den with the mantis not really a good idea on the fishes part.

See at the time I didnt know the mantis was molting, so for my firefish I feed the mantis while the fish was in the bag, hoping it will understand that is a No-Go area. Plus not eating for 4 days, well I spoil my mantis when I feed him.

In no way am I mad AT the mantis, and IMO doesnt give it bad rep, it just shows that they are oppurtunistic, as are most animals.

    sorry about your sixline..
on a postive side note, ive had mine for a couple years and it went missing 5 days ago. i figured it jumped out of the tank. But couldnt find it any where on the floor. upon reading this thread Just now, i decided to check my drip tray. low and behold it was alive in about 1/4" of water flowing through the tray..I can't believe it theres no room in there since i have two media bags and filer floss crammed in there.. i did lose a clown long time ago this way when it got sucked into the overflow box and died on top of drip tray filter floss.. so thanks for making me think about my sixline, because he's one of my favs..

OMG I had no idea people actually keep mantis' in the same tank as fish.Almost all my fish except the clowns sleep in the rocks.Almost all my fish were also over 20 dollars ...

Not all mantis's are evil fish killing machines... lol

When I look for fish, i avoid blennies and gobies because the whole rock issue.

FWIW, sixlines do NOT sleep in the sandbed; they sleep in the rock crevices in a mucus cocoon.
