im so upset ive been crying most the morning. i asked the guy at the store if i needed a top for him before i got him and he said no. ive read everything i could find on them and nothing said they were jumpers. im puting tops back on my tank and not taking them back off. anyone heard of a tusk jumping out

Can't say I have heard of a Tusk jumping, but every fish has the ability to jump regardless of if they are referred to as jumpers or not.

One nice alternative you may look into instead of putting glass/acrylic panes on the top of your tank is to build a mesh screen top to put on top of your tank. It is much more ascetically pleasing, allows for more light penetration into your tank for clams/corals/inverts, and it allows for the tank to "breathe" and not increase the temp (as would glass panels).

I am sorry for your loss and hope this helps.

Sorry to hear and I second the mesh screen cover. Bulk Reef Supply has some clear mesh which would diminish your light intensity the least.

You will have to contruct your own mesh top. I just made one myself a couple of days ago. Grabbed all pieces from homedepot and cost me around $35. It will take only at least 20 mins to do. Sorry for your loss

this is what i made. it's kinda hard to see the mesh for they are very fine so not to have too much light restriction passing through. all the materials are located where window screen repairs are.
you will need screen frame, spline, corners, rollers (didn't buy it but used a butter spreader, lol). then go to the garden section and buy the bird screen (which i used). you should also have a tool to cut the frame to size, a saw or a dremel will do.
it is easy to do and the security i gives with your tanks inhabitants is priceless.
my flame wrasse jumped out one night so the reason i made mine.

I made my own mesh too. I used clear screening and got my frame supplies from home depot as well. Didn't take me long and can't tell I have a screen on when looking into my tank. Sorry about your loss :(
