I've had this guy for 3-4 years now, but he's only been in the reef for a couple months.

He has gone through the fresh/brackish stage already. GSPs are allowed to go full salt, it's the figure 8s that can't. I had him going full salt in the 20 for a couple of months he had been by himself for 2 years. Decided to try a few hardy tank mates with him, he was very well behaved. I tossed in a nerite. 2 cetiths and a hermit, also had a flower pot in there, he left everone alone. After him doing so well I decided to take a chance and put him in the reef withtge shrimp and urchin, doesn't even touch them.

The puffers are hit and miss with inverts, but coral safe, he did taste a few on his first day but then left them alone :D

Outstanding. I think they are by far my favorite fish but I didn't want to do a brackish tanks just for it. Can you introduce it straight to a reef tank or do you start with a brackish and work your way to full salt? If you start with brackish how would you increase the salt and how long before he is in full salt?

Sorry for the questions but you just made my day!

I thinks it's best that you start them out in at least brackish because most of the puffers are very young and are in fresh, I think it would be to much of a shock to go from fresh to salt right away. It took me a long time to get it to full salt. I think the salanity should be bumped up 2-3 notched every couple of weeks until your at full salt. Then test them out with inverts, corals and fish then put them in your reef if they behave.

Lol no propblem about asking questions, that's what were here for. I love my GSP their very personable fish :D
