I have a ton of white areas on my rocks, and recently i noticed the diatoms starting to cover some of the white areas, is that a good or bad sign? Or is a lot of white coloring on l.r. normal? Tank is still cycling.

Sounds like signs of die off in those areas which just means your cycle is well on its way. The rock will gain color over lots of time.

Pods and worms wont start popping up tell after the cycle has been done for awhile. Then your worms should start coming out pretty quickly and pods may or may not start popping up fast. Its always a good idea to jump start your pod population with some store bought pods. If you have or are planning on setting up a fuge thats the best place to put them.

No fuge, but next time i go to the lfs i'll see if they sell any

so of course they don't come out when you want them too. Once your tank cycles you will have fish and coral to look at, but when all you have is live rock you want to see something, and they don't come out, so when they do come out guess you don't really care.

also, quick question that sounds stupid.

Is it normal for rocks to have little tiny holes in them? For instance, one of the rocks that is white and now starting to get covered in diatoms, has like 6 or more holes in them, like something dug it's way through the rock, like a worm goes through an apple. Could this rock possibly be hosting a worm with all of these tiny holes?

It could be where worms once had there homes or, could be the way the coral skeleton was formed or it could just be holes cut in the rock by currents. Its normal though.

Sounds like a porous rock. I couldn't begin to count the holes in mine.
