We have a Rio 26HF & it is loud! We have it in our cabinet below the tank & have it sitting on a filter pad in the wet/dry. We also have the wet/dry sitting on a rubber mat.

Any suggestions on how to make it more quiet?

    thanks,
    julie

Check the impeller out and make sure none of the fingers are broken off. That will make it out of balance and cause noise.

Also, unplug/plug in the power cord a few times to see if you can get it to change rotation direction. My mag 24 does this and I have to re-plug it in until it moves in the right direction. When it rotates in the wrong direction, it is VERY loud.

Thanks Scott - I'm not sure anything on it would be broken - it's a brand new pump.

Thanks sessionthree - I'll try unplugging it.

you can glue rubber feet to it so the plastic pump housing isn't touching the bottom of the tank

Yeah, take the impeller out and inspect it. Try attaching some styra-foam to the bottom of the pump. Maybe its vibrating against the glass bottom. Also, make sure there is no air stuck in the impeller chamber. Rio's are known for that.

Yeah, thats why I returned the Mag24, very loud vibration. Luna

Yeah, even when running correctly, the Mag24 is a bit loud. I run it in the sump which is in the basement, so it's not an issue for me. There's no way I would run it with a sump directly underneath the DT, though.

I checked it left and right and couldnt figure out why it makes such a noise. The only thing that I didnt do, but thought about it after I returned it was, to remove that blk rubber flap inside the impeller housing. Luna

you may have tightened the fittings too much.
