OK, my tank in cycling, the ammonia is spiking at 8.0 and the PH just registered at 7.8. Do i need to do anything about the low PH or just let the tank cycle ? PH was fine yesterday.. if I need to do anything what do i need to do... this is FOWLR... 3 inch crushed coral as substate.

I think you should let it go if it is still cycling.
Keep in mind that pH can be lower early in the day than it is later as well. Try to do the test in the afternoon at the same time each day or get a range by doing one in the morning and one late in the day.

    That pH thing

    Hi,
I am very new to this, I had a similar ph change during that acclimation, I was surprised how easily PH can change , i thought with all the coral and special sand it would buffer the water , its seem that PH may be sensative to air bubbles available, buffer and unless the PH drops to 7.8 many sand types will not buffer till then. SO I add some PH buffer and CA++ equally to help prevent upsetting the balance. So not all buffers are balanced unless they state they are, I am currently try ing that argonitemilk , they say its balanced and stable and may take a day or two to change the water.
Seems pretty good. The things I used in fresh water arenot reccomended in Salt.. take Bicarb can actually lower the PH and bind ca+. If you change CA++ to fast it will precip and its not available to use and fall out in the tank more to fast isn't better. .
